Sarasa Nishijin Kyoto: Transforming a Public Bathhouse into a Cozy Cafe

Cafe Sarasa Nishijin Kyoto

A once humble public bath house has been transformed into a charming and inviting cafe.

Have you ever heard of a place that makes you feel like traveling to a different universe? If not, let me introduce you to Cafe Sarasa Nishijin Kyoto (さらさ西陣) - a former public bathhouse in Japan that's straight out of Spirit Away, a Studio Ghibli movie! The moment you step inside, you'll be transported to a magical world where time seems to stop.

The former Fujinomori public bathhouse is charming sentou (銭湯), built over 90 years ago, and has been transformed into a cozy cafe you won't want to miss. The owner has preserved all the traditional details of the bathhouse, including the stunning karahafu-style roof and the magnificent high ceiling. The antique interior is simply breathtaking, with Japanese majolica tiles covering every inch of the walls. You'll feel like you've stepped back in time when you visit this unique and beautiful space.

With its enchanting atmosphere and otherworldly charm, Sarasa Nishijin Kyoto is a must-visit for anyone who loves a good adventure in your imagination.

Delicious cake at Sarasa Nishijin Kyoto

Are you a fan of cozy cafes but often get disappointed by the overpriced coffee and mediocre desserts? Well, let me tell you about my recent visit to Sarasa Nishijin Kyoto, which completely surprised me with its pocket-friendly prices and mouth-watering dessert options.

Although we reached there around 5 pm and most of the items were already sold out, we managed to try their Apple Walnut Cake and Affogato, and boy, they were so delicious!

Sarasa Nishijin Kyoto also serves one-dish meals and alcohol. I'm already planning my next visit and this time, I'll make sure to get there early to try the other cake options. Trust me, this place is definitely worth a visit!
